CHAMPS 2024 Meet Logistics (as far as I know them)
Good evening, Team Seals,
Let’s get ready for CHAMPS!
Our meet mantra will be focus, confidence, achievement! (Eric Marshall promises to wear a replica Eli Manning jersey because Manning represents the ultimate in focus, confidence and achievement)
AND get your car ready for CHAMPS - join our coaches and volunteers at Kiker Elementary on Friday from 4:45-6:00P to get your car painted for CHAMPS. Your flash car will be sure to build Seals spirit; intimidate opposing teams; and keep you immune from traffic stops. There will be no swim practice Friday
AND an IMPORTANT upfront note
WOW! What an amazing job Coach Ivy and her team have done this year! The Seals are confident, having fun, and consistently impressing with their progress -- an AMAZING first year as Head Coach!!!

THINGS WE KNOW
- Volunteer changes should be made before Wednesday at 6P. If you have any last minute changes, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Bethany Pendleton at [email protected]
- This will be the longest drive of the season, please allow for extra drive time and parking
- Parking is on the east side of the RRISD pool please see the attached Campus Map. Please do not move cones. Cones are used for lifeguards, and to transport food and equipment. Recommend dropping your swimmer at the pool entrance and then continuing to parking. The walk from parking to pool for late arrivers begins somewhere near Killeen
- It will be Texas hot. We will set up extra tents for a Parent’s Zoo, but feel free to bring: your own pop-up tents, umbrella chairs, fans, ice chests, and the patience of a first grade substitute teacher
- Parents will not be permitted to set up in the swimmer zoo. Plan to be in the zoo for drop, departure, a quick hug of encouragement and to bring food from trucks (or your personal stash) as needed. Please make sure your swimmer has everything they need: chair; goggles; water; snacks; (for older swimmers, money for food trucks). Also, please note that you will not be able to walk through the pool to get your child from the Zoo when leaving
- Concessions - we will have a number of food trucks adjacent to the Zoo area. The Aquatic Center does not have concessions. Purchasing and delivering food to your swimmers will help AGPs manage the mayhem
- For safety and access reasons, there is a hard capacity limit for the pool. This limit is being strictly enforced. We encourage you to come and view your swimmers’ events, but respectfully ask that you return to the Spectator Zoo area when their event is concluded. No chairs are permitted on the deck :). There will be a set of risers for fans with mobility issues
- Also for safety reasons, ONLY coaches, swimmers and select volunteers are allowed on the pool deck in the start and finish areas. And absolutely no photos or videos from directly behind the starting blocks
- The event order will be: 1. IM (fly/back/breast/free) / 2. Butterfly / 3. Backstroke / 4. Freestyle Relay / 5. Freestyle (point where many parents deliriously wonder, “Round Rock is north, shouldn’t it be cooler?”) / 6. Breaststroke / 7. Medley Relay (back/breast/fly/free)
- Starting blocks (optional) will be used for all individual events. They will NOT be used for all 10-and-under relays
THING I PROMISE NOT TO EMAIL YOU ABOUT NEXT MONDAY
We have much less flexibility in changing heat sheets for CHAMPS, especially for relays. Please let me know ASAP if there are changes to your schedule and you need to cancel
THINGS WE THINK PARENTS HAVE DONE IN THE PAST TO AVOID 2 SESSIONS AT CHAMPS
1. Pay a large sum to their children to have them send a note to their grandparents that reads, "We would really, really like you -- AND ONLY YOU -- to come watch us at CHAMPS" / 2. Pay an extra-large sum to buy their 11-year-old a new car in exchange for opting out of Session 2 / 3. Pay with months of lingering guilt to have your neighbor hide your cars in their garage the night before and in the morning pretend that they were stolen. Miraculously recover your stolen cars in time to get to Session 2.
SEALS SPIRIT THING
One of my favorite quotes of the season: "On Saturdays, orange is better than bacon." Be better than bacon at CHAMPS!
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
Have fun and scream your head off! We are making uniquely amazing memories
Thanks for EVERYTHING this year and GO SEALS!
